Pinecrest, Cleveland’s newest mixed-use district by Fairmount Properties and the DiGeronimo Companies, took home gold (and the top honor for mixed-use developments) in the International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC) Global Awards for North American Design and Development.
The ICSC Design and Development Awards recognize excellence in innovation and creativity in the U.S. and Canada retail real estate industry. The competition was open to shopping center owners, developers, management companies, architects, designers, retailers or other professionals responsible for any retail project or retail store design that demonstrated exceptional development or redevelopment characteristics with a high degree of creativity and uniqueness within North America. The competition focused on three categories: Renovations and Expansions; New Developments; and Retail Store Design.
Pinecrest was awarded gold in the New Developments category on Thursday night, Dec. 5, at ICSC’s three-day CenterBuild conference in Phoenix, Arizona.
In addition, Brice Hamill, vice president of Design and Planning at Fairmount Properties, was named among the CenterBuild Class of 2019 Rising Retail Leaders Under 40.
Pinecrest includes 400,000 square feet of retail and dining destinations, a dine-in movie theater, two Class-A office buildings with 164,000 square feet of space, a 145-room AC Hotel by Marriott, 87 luxury apartments and a 754-space parking deck. CallisonRTKL was responsible for architecture, interior design, wayfinding and environmental graphic design.
The office, cinema, retail, residential and hotel buildings engage the streetscape via entryways, roof terraces and balconies. A signature plaza with a monumental stair turns necessary circulation into an opportunity for a unique experience, while also providing event seating. The district’s open-air, Main-Street-inspired environment features plentiful gathering spaces and amenities along with a highly desirable tenant mix filled with many sought-after (and in many cases, new-to-market) brands, including REI, West Elm, Whole Foods, Pinstripes, Silverspot Cinema, Shake Shack, Warby Parker, Vineyard Vines and Urban Outfitters.
