City of Carmel officials, community leaders and project partners gathered May 21 to celebrate the groundbreaking of Ardalan Plaza, a $19 million, three-story, mixed-use development that will serve as a gateway to the city’s Arts & Design District.

In her remarks at the event, Carmel Mayor Sue Finkam extended deep gratitude to the Ardalan family for their contributions to Carmel.

“Today’s groundbreaking marks an exciting milestone for our city,” said Carmel Mayor Sue Finkam. “Ardalan Plaza represents Carmel’s continued commitment to thoughtful growth, artistic vibrancy and a strong economy. It will create a welcoming and architecturally significant entry point to our Arts & Design District.”

Located at 311–331 W. Main Street, on the north half of the block between 3rd Avenue SW and 4th Avenue SW, Ardalan Plaza will encompass 8,000 square feet of retail and gallery space on the first floor, five luxury condominiums on the second floor and a private residence with a rooftop terrace spanning the third floor.

Designed to evoke the elegance of an Italian villa, the building will feature decorative columns, cornices and balustrades. A new alley is planned, providing increased access to the property and further enhancing its functionality. As an architecturally significant cornerstone to Carmel’s Arts & Design District, Ardalan Plaza will welcome visitors arriving from the west as they pass the iconic fountain located at the roundabout on West Main Street and 4th Avenue SW.

The project is a collaboration between the Carmel Redevelopment Commission and the Ardalan family, supported by Skender Construction, Studio M Architecture and Planning and KBSO Consulting Engineers.

“We’re proud to be part of a project that will enhance Carmel’s Main Street and contribute to the city’s continued economic growth,” said Skender Senior Vice President Brian Simons.

Dr. Soori Ardalan, owner of Soori Gallery, added, “We are thrilled to help shape the future of Carmel with Ardalan Plaza. This project reflects our passion for blending art, community and timeless design into the fabric of the city we love.”

“Carmel’s strong business climate and commitment to community-driven development and visionary leadership make projects like Ardalan Plaza possible,” said Carmel Redevelopment Commission Executive Director Henry Mestetsky. “We’re so thankful to have residents like the Ardalans who continue to invest in the place we call home.”

Construction is now underway and is expected to be completed in 2026.
