Several government and library officials gathered July 31 in Milwaukee for the ground-breaking ceremony of The Standard @ East Library.
The multi-use development includes 99 apartments, the new 16,000-square-foot Milwaukee Public Library’s East branch and retail space.
On hand for the ground-breaking were Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett and 3rd District Alderman Nik Kovac. Brett Haney and Ryan Schultz, owners of HSI Properties, LLC, the owner of the project, were also at the ceremony.
“I am pleased to see this project officially underway,” said Barrett during the ceremony. “It is part of our long-term vision for our libraries. This project is the result of creative collaboration.”
This is the second library to be built in Milwaukee as part of a mixed-use development. The first, Villard Square, opened in the fall of 2011.
The complex is owned by an investor group led by HSI Properties, LLC, was designed by Engberg Anderson and will be constructed by Madison-based Stevens Construction Corporation. Construction should wrap in July of 2014.
