Franklin Special School District celebrated the start of construction on a 38,400-square-foot Central Office building. A ceremony was held on June 21 and was attended by district staff, board members, partner representatives and community members.
The new building will serve as a home to all central office staff. In addition to office spaces on two levels, it will include multi-functional space for school board meetings and larger professional learning opportunities.
The FSSD Central Office will also include an open-air courtyard and a 2,800-square-foot assembly space with integrated audiovisual technology. Every workspace will have direct access to natural lighting to improve staff members’ physical and mental well-being. Other highlights include a fully equipped kitchen/cafeteria space, loading and storage areas and a wellness area.
In addition to the new central office, an existing metal building on the same property is currently under construction as it is being repurposed into a newly-renovated 12,400-square-foot FSSD Facilities and Transportation Center. This building will include the facilities and transportation administrative offices, a drivers’ lounge, a meeting area, space and equipment for maintenance of vehicles, as well as generous storage.
Wold Architects and Engineers provided design and construction administration services for the new building with Nabholz Construction serving as the project’s construction manager. Wold coordinated planning conversations to understand FSSD’s needs, evaluated the current central office annex, helped conduct an environmental study and facilitated a site analysis to ensure the design of the new building provided adequate and essential spaces.
The new Franklin Special School District Central Office is located at 205 Eddy Lane in Franklin, Tennessee. Construction is expected to be complete in early 2025.
