Last year, Midwest Real Estate News ran its first Hall of Fame issue, honoring the top commercial real estate professionals in the Midwest. We’ve since been running these profiles on our Web site. Here’s a look at one of our first inductees, Dan Dickey, president of NAI Harding Dahmn in Fort Wayne, Ind.

As head of the largest full-service privately owned real estate firm in Northwest Indiana, Dan Dickey certainly ranks as an important leader in the Midwest’s commercial real estate business.
But he’s an ethical leader who’s gained a reputation for honesty and for following through on his promises. This isn’t surprising; Dickey has worked in the commercial real estate business for more than 25 years. You don’t get to this veteran status without both working hard and earning a top reputation.
“Dan is a true leader,” said one nominator. “He’s built a real stronghold in his region, and his company always seems to attract the best brokers. He knows how to succeed in this business, and he does it with class.” Dickey certainly has the experience necessary to serve as a leader. During his quarter of a century in this business, Dickey has worked in everything from real estate brokerage and investment analysis to lease administration and asset and property management.
Dickey also boasts expertise in financing, development, design build, construction coordination and project management.
Yes, like the most accomplished of Midwest Real Estate News’ members of the Hall of Fame, Dickey has fashioned a career that both incredibly successful and amazingly varied.
Also like most of the members of this list, Dickey hasn’t begrudged his industry his talents. He is an active participant in a wide range of commercial real estate boards and associations. This list includes the Indiana Commercial Board of Realtors, the National Association of Realtors, Building Owner and Managers Association International, Society of Property Professionals, Institute of Real Estate Management and Institute of Real Estate Management.
Dickey has also been generous when it comes to serving the community outside of the world of commercial real estate. This is a rare trait: Too many immerse themselves completely in their work in this business. Dickey, though, has long understood that leaders also lead in their communities, and not just in their professions.
It’s difficult to list all of the community organizations with which Dickey has served. That list would run far too long. But a partial list shows that Dickey has served on the board of directors of Covington Bluffs, the Greater Fort Wayne Crime Stoppers and Parkview Foundation. He’s also a board member with the Fort Wayne Sexual Assault Treatment Center, the Volunteer Connection and the Interstate Office Park.
