Cincinnati-based Commercial real estate development and design-build firm Al. Neyer announced that Executive Vice President of Capital and Investments James T. Neyer will be retiring May 1.

“Throughout his 23-year tenure at Al. Neyer, Jim has played a critical role in shaping Al. Neyer into what it is today,” said Molly North, President and CEO at Al. Neyer. “You’d be hard-pressed to find someone with as much industry knowledge and hands-on experience as Jim. And beyond his contributions to Al. Neyer, Jim has served as a trusted friend and a committed mentor to countless people, including myself. Opportunities never stop for an entrepreneur like Jim; I know he will continue to positively impact our community in many ways.”

With 36 years of experience in commercial real estate, in development, finance and construction, Neyer has been revered as one of the best and brightest in the industry. He served in a variety of roles in his tenure at Al. Neyer, most recently as Executive Vice President of Capital and Investments, where he focused on expanding new and current relationships with debt and equity capital partners.

He is among the fifth generation of Neyer family members who established the company in 1894 and led it into its present-day position as a leading national commercial real estate developer and design-build firm. In 2014, Neyer, along with his then co-owners Bill Neyer and Dave Neyer, transitioned the family-owned company to its sixth generation of owners – the employees – as part of an Employee Stock Ownership Program.

Today, the firm has more than 100 employee-owners across its footprint in Cincinnati, Pittsburgh, Nashville and Raleigh. The company is consistently ranked among the Cincinnati region’s largest privately held companies and has received numerous industry and community honors for its projects and for its leadership and growth.

“It’s been really rewarding to play a part in growing the company and see the ESOP become a reality for our employee-owners,” said Neyer. “I came to a family-owned construction company that occasionally developed projects and helped grow it into a premier employee-owned design-build developer. Through the years, I’ve enjoyed working on a wide variety of deals, opening new offices, and mentoring great people. I am proud of the vast accomplishments that we have achieved and the team we have built. I am heading into retirement with confidence that the Neyer legacy of integrity and perseverance lives on.”

Neyer earned a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from Marquette University and spent more than a decade at Opus Group before joining Al. Neyer as a development executive.

He most recently served as 2018 National Chairman of NAIOP, the commercial real estate development association, after serving as NAIOP’s National Board Vice Chair; Ohio Board Past President and Treasurer and Cincinnati Chapter Past President and Governmental Relations Chair. In 2013, he received the prestigious NAIOP Impact Award.

He served on the boards and volunteered as an executive committee member of Downtown Cincinnati, Inc., , Easter Seals Tristate Treasurer, Cincinnati Community ToolBank founding board member, CISE Campaign Chair, University of Cincinnati Real Estate Roundtable; University of Cincinnati BEARE (Board of Executive Advisors in Real Estate), Cincinnati USA Regional Chamber Governmental Affairs Executive Committee and Leadership Cincinnati Class 29, and Cincinnati Business Courier 40 Under 40.
