Last year, Midwest Real Estate News ran its first Commercial Real Estate Hall of Fame issue, honoring the most accomplished commercial professionals in the business. Since then, we’ve run these profiles on our Web site. Here’s a look at the thriving career of NAI Capital Realty‘s Kevin Wilkerson.
Kevin Wilkerson Position: President Company: NAI Capital Realty Location: Overland Park, Kansas
Compared to some of the commercial real estate pros in Midwest Real Estate News’ first Hall of Fame class, Kevin Wilkerson is a relative newcomer to the industry. After all, he’s “only” logged 23 years in the business.
But in these 23 years, Wilkerson has achieved as much as has anyone in the Midwest’s commercial real estate profession.
Consider some of these numbers: Wilkerson has completed more than 800 sales and lease transactions. And these sales are worth more than $650 million in value.
It’s all led his peers to call Wilkerson, president of Overland Park, Kansas-based NAI Capital Realty, one of the top dealmakers in the Midwest.
“If a deal can be put together, Kevin is the one to do it,” said one of his peers. “He’s accomplished so much in his career. And I’m sure he’ll accomplish a lot more before he’s done.”
Wilkerson’s skills have helped NAI Capital Realty achieve its own sterling numbers. The company’s brokerage team has been involved with more than 2,770 sales and leasing transactions, deals that today total more than $1.37 billion in value.
NAI Capital Realty’s investment sales successes have given the company 27 portfolios. These portfolios include a significant amount of real estate: 114 buildings worth more than $358 million.
On top of that, members of the company’s senior brokerage team has been honored a combined 80 times for their success. With numbers like these, it’s little surprise that NAI Capital Realty is recognized as one of the strongest players in the Kansas City regional real estate market.
Wilkerson deserves much of the credit for the company’s success. His peers recognize him as one of the hardest workers in the business. But that’s not the only trait that has fueled Wilkerson’s ascension in this business. Hard work is key, of course, but it’s rarely enough: It takes brains, too, to rise in commercial real estate.
Wilkerson has that. In abundance.
Wilkerson’s peers mention that not only does he work harder, he works smarter, too. This combination has proven to be an effective one. Again, the numbers tell the story: In addition to his sales and lease transactions, Wilkerson has managed to develop 21 industrial and office properties during his career. These developments are now worth more than $140 million.
The numbers that Wilkerson has already generated would be enough for any real estate profession who was calling it a career. The fact that Wilkerson is so far from walking off into the sunset makes his numbers all that more impressive.
