Knutson Construction will celebrate the grand-opening of the light rail transit Target Field Station on May 17. The new multi-modal hub and public plaza will provide a gateway to Target Field Stadium, home of Major League Baseball’s Minneapolis Twins.
Hennepin County selected Knutson Construction in May of 2012 as part of the design-build team working with Perkins Eastman and New York-based Peter Cavaluzzi, FAIA. A mix of federal, state and local sources funded the $79.3 million project. More than half of the project is funded by local government.
Target Field station will welcome 40,000 visitors attending the 2014 Major League Baseball All-Star game this July. The entire canopy above the light-rail transit station platform has enhanced programmable LED lights that can change to any color. The station also boasts a 29-by-16-foot video board on top of its elevator core that can be viewed from the Great Lawn and upper plaza.
