On Nov. 15 Real Estate Publishing Group will host a conference, The Technology Driving Real Estate, a closer look at how technology is impacting and shaping the way real estate is designed, developed, leased and managed. The conference is being held at the Crowne Plaza Rosemont, 5440 River Road in Rosemont.
The conference, which begins with registration at 7 a.m. and runs through 11 a.m., will feature some of the individuals who have influenced and continue to impact the way technology is viewed in commercial real estate and among users of space.
An opening welcome will feature Jim Young, the founder and producer of RealComm, which annually holds a real estate technology conference that attracts thousands in the world of commercial real estate from across the country.
To demonstrate exactly how end users are incorporating technology, a keynote presentation will feature Ken Hagaman, director of real estate for Anixter. Also featured as part of this visually-dominated presentation will be Karl Heitman, Heitman Architects, and CJ Keuhl, Lee & Associates.
According to Heitman, users today are less concerned with expenses driven on a “cost per square foot” basis as they are with a “cost per pallet” basis.
“That means that anyone who touches commercial real estate — an owner, developer, architect, broker, contractor, etc.—must understand how to make that transition,” Heitman said. “Technology does that, and people have to understand the tools and systems that are important to the end user.”
Following that presentation there will be two panel discussions. The first will look at technology in the marketing as well as property and asset management functions. The panel will feature Geoff Kasselman, Op2mize; Brett Opie, Arcestra; Dustin Gellman, GreenPoint Partners; and Darryl Benson, Environmental Systems Inc. (ESI).
The last panel will focus on the design, development and construction phases. It will feature Karl Heitman, Heitman Architects; Brendan Kelly, Avison Young; John Smith, Textura; Jennifer Suerth, Mortensen; David Pikey, Hill Mechanical; and David Pikey, Hill Mechanical.
Registration for the event is $89. People can register at www.rejournals.com/conferences.
