Massive Fulton Market mixed-use development set to change the game

Transformation and change in Chicago’s Fulton Market is the norm, but a massive mixed-use complex proposed by LAMB Partners and IBT could be one of the largest projects to hit the neighborhood.

As reported by Crain’s, the 1.2 million square foot office, hotel, and retail project would tower over the 1200 block of West Fulton Street. The 24-story modular building would hold 900,000 square feet of office space, a 60-room boutique hotel and ground floor retail with 700 parking spaces built beneath the site. Renderings from New York-based S9 Architects reveal a square and rectangular glass building with several tiers that have trees, green landscaping and outdoor seating.

The impressive proposal would need a zoning change and approval from the city and the 27th Ward Ald. Walter Burnett. If the project is approved, it would continue to put Fulton Market’s meatpacking past in the rearview mirror and push the neighborhood towards restaurants chasing Michelin stars, trendy hotels and creative offices.

Any big proposal like this hints at the city’s eagerness to attract Amazon, especially since Fulton Market was one of the sites pitched in Chicago’s recent bid for the tech company’s second headquarters. Whether or not the city is graced with Amazon’s presence, the 1200 W. Fulton St. project would be a massive addition the landscape of Fulton Market.
