MB Real Estate announced that 181 W. Madison has been awarded the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design for Existing Buildings (LEED-EB) Gold certification by the U.S. Green Building Council. The property is owned by CBRE Global Investors and is leased and managed by MB Real Estate.
LEED-EB Gold is a prestigious rating given to existing buildings for maximizing operational efficiency and minimizing environmental impacts. “Green buildings go beyond energy savings,” said Krystal Kurinsky, senior vice president and general manager at 181 W. Madison. “They also create a more sustainable environment for our tenants and our surrounding community. The LEED program is a long-term initiative with far-reaching benefits.”
Sustainability initiatives at 181 W. Madison include: • Efficient equipment, including chillers, a building automation system, air handling units and electrical infrastructure improvements • Low-flow toilets and bathroom/kitchen sink aerators facilitating water conservation and lower energy costs • Green cleaning practices implemented throughout the building
Constructed in 1990, 181 W. Madison is a 50-story, Class A trophy property in downtown Chicago comprised of 952,559 square feet. In addition to its recent LEED-EB Gold certification, the building holds an ENERGY STAR® rating for outstanding practices in energy efficiency. CBRE Global Investors is also investing $8.5 million for capital improvements at the property, including a 5-star Worldwide Wellness Center, lobby upgrades, spec suites and multiple eco-friendly features.
