Construction of Johnson County’s new 33,000-square-foot, single story Medical Examiner Facility in Olateh, Kansas, is officially underway. In mid-December 2018, more than 80 county elected officials and leaders, law enforcement representatives, construction and design partners and community stakeholders gathered at a ground-breaking celebration to kick-off construction of the county’s first-ever medical examiner facility.
The facility will be located on the Johnson County Government campus at 119th and Ridgeview in Olathe.
In November 2016, Johnson County voters approved a ¼-cent sales tax to build a medical examiner facility to perform autopsies and death investigations. In late 2017, McCarthy Building Companies, Inc., was selected as the contractor for the new $16.5 million building. The project should be complete by the end of 2019, with move in taking place 1Q 2020 and the building opening in 2Q 2020.
Design partners include PGAV, Inc., SmithGroup JJR, Confluence Design, Henderson Engineers, Walter P Moore and McClure Engineering.
