Mid-America Asset Management Inc. recently signed Sleepy’s mattress stores to two shopping centers in the Chicago area as the New York-based retailer expands into the Midwest market.
According to Mid-America Principal Richard Spinell, whose firm is the exclusive representative for the centers, Sleepy’s signed a lease for 6,075 square feet at Cicero Annex in the City of Chicago, and another for 6,507 square feet at Willow Creek Center in Glenview. The Chicago location plans to open this summer; the Glenview store has recently opened.
Sleepy’s Inc. is a privately owned fourth-generation company with more than 900 mattress showrooms in 15 states spanning from Maine to North Carolina, selling nationally through its website.
According to Mid-America Real Estate Corp. Principal Jeff Kuchman, who along with Dan Tausk, Greg Bayer and Willie Hoag comprises Sleepy’s tenant representation team for their Chicago-area expansion, these are the first of many stores that are planned for the Chicago area. “Sleepy’s is the dominant brand on the East Coast and has every intention of introducing a new and improved level of product selection, knowledge and customer support to the Chicagoland area,” Kuchman said.
Cicero Annex is located on the southeast corner of Cicero and 81st Street in southwest Chicago. Anchors at the 66,423-square-foot center include Party City, Citi Trends, Catherines and Discovery Clothing Company.
Willow Creek Center is located at the southeast corner of Willow and Old Willow roads in Glenview. The 174,228-square-foot center is anchored by Kohl’s, Michaels, Office Max and Target.
Mid-America Vice President Jaime Bertsche represented the landlord in the Cicero Annex lease, while Mid-America Vice President Liz Krebs represented the landlord in the Willow Creek lease. Mid-America’s Jeff Kuchman and Willie Hoag represented the tenant in both leases.
