Chicago-based developer Fifield Cos. announced the name Westerly for its development at 740 N. Aberdeen Street in Chicago’s River West neighborhood. Opening this fall, the 11-story building will include 188 apartments, 2,400 square feet of ground-floor retail and a public park.
“The name Westerly draws inspiration from the building’s location in the quieter, less dense River West neighborhood, which is still close to all the city center has to offer, but far enough away to be a distinctive neighborhood that celebrates both its factory history and a modern, comfortable aesthetic,” said Jon Schneider, senior vice president at Fifield Cos. “Being able to live in a building with the finishes and amenities of a new-construction luxury apartment while surrounded by a mix of old and new architecture appeals to so many Chicagoans. We are delivering on that demand with Westerly.”
Fifield Cos. has hired Greystar to manage the building and general contractor McHugh Construction continued work on the building throughout the spring, keeping with the original timeline for delivery. The firm is nearing completion of the unit finishes.
“Our project team quickly innovated and adapted new protocols on the job site to keep everyone safe while also keeping the project on schedule,” said Ray Cisco, project executive with McHugh Construction. “I’m proud of our dedicated team of construction professionals who made the best of a challenging situation to ensure the timely construction of Westerly.”
Designed by Chicago-based FitzGerald Associates Architects, Westerly will include a mix of studio, one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments ranging from 544 to 1,513 square feet. The interiors, designed by Morgante Wilson Architects, showcase floor-to-ceiling windows, plank flooring, high ceilings and in-unit washers and dryers. Some apartments feature balconies.
Indoor amenities are focused on resident comfort, convenience and wellness, and will include a fitness club, resident lounge, penthouse-level party room, coffee bar, conference center and dedicated coworking space. Due to its location along one of Chicago’s most popular bikeways, Westerly also offers ample bike storage with a bike “kitchen” for maintenance and repairs, in addition to a parking garage with 80 spaces primarily for resident use.
Outdoor amenities will include a landscaped sun terrace on the third level with a pool, shade cabanas, grilling stations and private seating and dining areas. The new public park, designed by Hitchcock Design Group, will be located adjacent to the building and will feature a dog park, green space, seating and dedicated access for Westerly residents.
“Throughout Westerly, we designed the interiors to not only reflect the urban, industrial flavor of the building’s architecture, but also create a city sanctuary that’s as warm and inviting as it is refined and sophisticated,” said K. Tyler, partner and principal – interior design, with Morgante Wilson Architects.
Westerly puts residents minutes away from downtown Chicago and popular neighborhoods like the West Loop, Wicker Park, Bucktown and Logan Square, with a vast array of restaurants and outdoor recreation areas nearby. Located steps from the Milwaukee Avenue corridor intersection with Chicago Avenue, the building offers an easy commute by car along the Kennedy Expressway and on the CTA Blue Line.
