Ohio’s Bowling Green State University officially dedicated its Stroh Convocation Center, the school’s new 5,000-seat, 130,000-square-foot multi-purpose arena, on Sept. 9.
The arena, designed by Southfield, Mich.-based architecture design firm Rossetti, now serves as the gateway to the college campus located in Bowling Green, Ohio. The mitered-cornered, single-bowl arena is the new home of the Falcon’s men’s and women’s basketball team. The arena will also be used for women’s volleyball, concerts, lectures, commencement and other campus and community events.
The site, on a prominent corner of the athletic campus, was selected for its orientation to the east for optimal exposure to natural light. At the start of the project, BGSU and Rossetti made a commitment to pursue sustainable strategies. Local materials were selected and used for construction to cut down on excessive fuel in transport to the site. Storm-water runoff is managed with the implementation of high-efficiency mechanical systems and water-use reduction measures.
Also included as part of the arena are the BGSU team store, an alumni club and Hall of Fame, locker rooms, extensive sports medicine areas, athletic coach’s offices, conference and video rooms and a practice court.
