Peak Construction Corporation’s PeakGiving Team volunteered at the 19th Annual Special Olympics Jon DeMaine Construction Team Kick Off Picnic on June 2nd. Hosted at Allstate’s headquarters in Northbrook, Illinois, the picnic featured a multitude of games, face painting, food and music. PeakGiving is honored to have participated with McWilliams Electric Company, Special Olympics and all the volunteers and organizers.

The picnic raises funds for athletes within Illinois’ Region E, which includes Will, Grundy, Kankakee and Southern Cook Counties, to help offset their costs to participate in the annual Special Olympics Summer Games held in Bloomington-Normal each June. There are over 2,400 athletes in Region E and the picnics have raised a total of $339,575 to date. The picnic will be celebrating its 20th anniversary in 2019 with the goal of making it the most successful one yet.

The first Construction Team Summer Kick Off Picnic was held in 2000 and organized by Jon DeMaine, who was very active with the Special Olympics. DeMaine began reaching out to fellow construction companies to participate in the event by either donating or volunteering to help administer the picnic. His vision and passion for the Special Olympics and the annual picnic were nothing short of amazing and DeMaine grew the picnic into an annual, preeminent event. In 2017 the picnic was re-named the Jon DeMaine Construction Team Kick Off Picnic in honor and memory of DeMaine.

Since 2006, McWilliams Electric Company has been in charge of organizing the annual picnic and, over the years, it has continued to grow in both attendees, as well as monetary donations to the Special Olympics. For more information or if you’d like to get involved, please contact Maureen Lucenti at McWilliams Electric Company at 847-301-2600.
