PREMIER Design + Build Group, LLC begins construction at the University of Chicago Medicine Comprehensive Cancer Center at Silver Cross Hospital in New Lenox, Illinois.
HSA|PrimeCare has chosen PREMIER Design + Build Group, LLC to construct a linear accelerator vault addition to the University of Chicago Medicine Comprehensive Cancer Center at Silver Cross Hospital in New Lenox, Illinois. The linear accelerator provides cancer patients with cutting-edge technology and targeted radiation therapy accurate to the millimeter.
When Silver Cross Hospital and the University of Chicago Medical Center originally paired up in a joint venture to own and operate a cancer center on the medical campus, plans were made for this future expansion that is now underway.
PREMIER constructed the original 22,879 square foot cancer treatment center which housed its first linear accelerator and has the necessary knowledge and expertise for a seamless expansion to the existing structure. Demolition of a portion of the original structure’s exterior wall is required prior to construction. The new specialized space is being constructed with poured concrete walls, up to 6 feet thick in certain areas, and architectural precast veneer to safely contain radiation. Included in the addition is the vault for the linear accelerator and its associated control room. The original 60 Mil, fully-adhered, TPO roofing system will be extended to cover the new space. PREMIER will install electrical, fire alarm and lighting control systems as well.
Anticipated completion of the vault addition is 3rd quarter of 2014.
Joe Ahrens is PREMIER’s project manager overseeing the design + build process. Rip Pogue is the field superintendent and HKS Architects is delivering architectural services.
