Principle Construction completed phase one of a renovation project for SMW Autoblok at its current location in Wheeling, Illinois.
This initial phase prepares the facility for a future expansion encompassing office and warehouse space. Principle previously completed a significant expansion for SMW Autoblok at the same address in 2008.
SMW Autoblok, a leading manufacturer of turning and grinding machine tools, is implementing an automated parts picking system with the Kardex system. “This renovation creates a dedicated space for their Kardex equipment, allowing them to streamline warehouse operations and maintain efficiency,” explains James Brucato, President and Principal on the project. “This investment ensures SMW Autoblok stays competitive while remaining in a familiar location close to their existing workforce.”
Phase one of the project involved constructing a walled enclosure for the Kardex system, a new shipping office, and a pump room. This lays the groundwork for the next phase, which will add a new showroom, a main conference room, and general office upgrades. These improvements will enable SMW Autoblok to operate at the forefront of their industry without relocating.
John Cahill of Principle Construction is served as the project manager, with Scott Nagle overseeing construction as superintendent. Partners in Design served as the project architect.
