Principle Construction Corp. has completed the construction of a new 267,000-square-foot build-to-suit manufacturing facility for Winpak Portion Packaging Inc. near the corner of Mark Collins Drive and LogistiCenter Drive in Sauk Village.

Principle was chosen by Dermody Properties (DP Partners) to build the facility for their tenant, Winpak Portion Packaging. Situated on a 28.75-acre site, the new plastics manufacturing facility includes: a warehouse, production area, offices, maintenance area, grinding room, chemical storage room, utilities room and printing area.

The production space features 700 tons of A/C interlocked with specialty exhaust systems and is supported by 8,000 amps of electrical service and distribution, process chilled water, compressed air systems, silo raw material storage and pnuematic delivery systems.  The roof structure has an increased load carrying capacity to support Winpak’s process equipment loads. LEED components such as T5 lighting, energy monitoring systems, increased R values, energy efficient HVAC systems and employee showers were incorported into the design. Other features of the 32-foot clear building are 15 exterior docks, two exterior drive-in doors, 25 trailer parking stalls and a rail siding for product delivery.

Winpak Ltd., based in Winnipeg, Canada, manufactures and distributes packaging materials and related packaging machines. The company’s products are used primarily for the protection of perishable foods, beverages and in health care applications. Winpak, part of a global packaging group, operates nine production facilities in Canada and the United States. Winpak’s strategic alliance with Wipak, a European manufacturer of packaging materials, allows for a global customer base.

Mike Long served as director of project management and Tom Sterbens served as superintendent for Principle Construction Corp.  Harris Architects provided architectural services and Jacob & Hefner Associates provided the civil engineering service.  Justin Fierz of Lee & Associates represented Winpak in the transaction and George Cibula of Darwin Realty and Development Corp. worked on behalf of Dermody Properties (DP Partners).
