Principle Construction Corp. has completed an 8,000-square-foot addition on 23700 W. Bluff Road in Channahon, Illinois. Principle originally constructed the 758,000-square-foot warehouse in 2016.
Working on behalf of owner IDIG Channahon, LLC, a subsidiary of IDI Logistics, the Principle team added 101 dock positions to the building and installed 23 acres of concrete paving for additional trailer and car parking. The project was completed two months ahead of schedule by pouring in excess of 1,250 yards of Ductilcrete per day.
“This project took some time to develop but once it was a go it really accelerated. This is directly attributable to the leadership of Jeff Smith of IDI Logistics working closely with our entire project team,” said Principle president James Brucato. “The challenge was to figure out how to add dock positions on a wall of the building that was not designed for docks. After considering various options the team determined that the most efficient way to do this was to pick up the north wall of the building and move it out 8 feet. This would allow us to construct docks along the entire 570-foot run of the wall. It went off without a hitch and the client is thrilled.”
The facility currently encompasses 758,000 square feet on 57.61 acres with 178 dock doors. Its 36-foot clear height already allows for expansive warehouse storage, while 772 trailer stalls and parking for 618 autos allow both trucks and employee vehicles to move in and out of the distribution center quickly.
Brucato is serving as principal on the project. Principle’s Darrin Dehmlow and Doug Brucato are senior project manager and senior superintendent, respectively. Sparks Architects is working as the project architect.
