raSmith is providing site planning, site design, landscape architecture and land surveying services for the new Wellness + Recreation Center at Marquette University in Milwaukee.
The site design includes the redevelopment of the front entry plaza and streetscape along 16th Street; pedestrian safety and accessibility improvements; service area, utility and drainage improvements; and urban-tolerant enhancements throughout the entire site.
The raSmith designers are part of the design team that includes the facilities planning and management team at Marquette University, HOK Architects and Workshop Architects.
Completed in the fall of 2016, the master plan for Marquette University recommended a series of high-impact projects to bolster the opportunities provided by the university. One of these was to develop a Wellness + Recreation Center on the campus.
The recreation portion of the project will incorporate spaces for physical training. The wellness program will house clinical outreach to provide physical, mental and spiritual support to the campus.
The Wellness + Recreation Center will be about 195,000 square feet and comes with an estimated project cost of about $100 million. The ground-breaking is estimated for spring of 2023 with the project opening during the 2025 spring semester.
