During a career that’s spanned more than two decades, Richard Underman, an executive vice president and principal with the Columbus office of Colliers International, has earned a reputation as a true leader in the commercial real estate business.

That’s no surprise to the people with whom Underman has worked during his 25 years in commercial real estate. They all point to Underman’s market knowledge, skill, work ethic and honesty when explaining why this commercial real estate professional has earned such respect from his peers.

And while Underman has steadily built a strong client list, he’s also provided a dramatic boost to the fortunes of Colliers’ Columbus office.

As one nominator says, Underman has helped turn the office into a true force in its market.

“His guidance and extensive experience within the real estate management industry has been instrumental in the growth and development of the company,” the nominator wrote.

Today, Underman includes a host of big names as part of his client list. This includes Prudential, Equitable, AETNA, Travelers, CIGNA, Nationwide, Sun Life, GE and JE Robert.

Underman’s peers have recognized his talents, and his contributions to the commercial real estate industry in Columbus. He is a past president of the Institute of Real Estate Management’s Columbus chapter and, in 1997, was named the CPM of the Year by the same organization.

When it’s time to give back to his profession, Underman hasn’t hesitated. He is an active member of several professional associations and holds several designations. He has donated his time to the Commercial Investment Real Estate Institute, Columbus Board of Realtors, Ohio Association of Realtors and National Association of Realtors.

“Rick is an active community leader and volunteer and is regarded as an exceptional administrator and leader in his profession within Central Ohio,” said one nominator.
