On behalf of Sergi Farms, to honor the memory and legacy of its founder, and to fulfill an earlier commitment made by Nicholas “Nick” Sergi, 1,200 pounds of beef are being donated to the Elkhorn Food Pantry in Southeast Wisconsin on January 11.
Upon receipt of the donation of the 1,200 pounds of beef, the Elkhorn Food Pantry will distribute the meat to additional food pantries throughout Southeast Wisconsin. According to the Elkhorn Food Pantry, the donation is expected to benefit more than 700 families, and thousands of individuals, throughout Southeast Wisconsin.
Nick Sergi, the founder of Sergi Farms, died following an accident in late October. Earlier that month, Nick had begun making arrangements with St. Patrick’s Church and the local food pantries to make that donation, to help those less fortunate.
The announcement was made by the Sergi Family, including Nick’s parents, JoAnn and Dominic Sergi, and his brothers, Dominic Sergi Jr., Joe Sergi and Will Sutila. Dominic Sergi was the third-generation owner of REX Electric prior to its sale. Dominic Sergi Jr. and Joe Sergi are co-owners of Chicago-based Clear Height Properties while Sutila is an executive with Leopardo Companies.
“The donation embraces the spirit of who Nick was, and how he lived his life, day-by-day,” said Dominic and JoAnn Sergi, Nick’s father and mother. “The words ‘Giving makes you smile’ were not just a line for Nick, they were a guidepost.”
Nick Sergi has been described as a deeply religious man, one who actively sought to help people and causes, in the groups that he joined and the individual interactions he had with people he encountered. He kept a Bible in is backpack, prepared to minister to those in need; always helping, but never preaching.
Sergi Farms was the outgrowth of Nick Sergi’s passion for the land and animals which inspired him to create a humane and healthy approach to producing delicious, nutritious beef. On the company’s website Nick is quoted as saying, “We set ourselves apart from the rest based on the level of hard work and pride we put into our products every day. Everything we produce, we believe in.”
The Sergi family also announced that Sergi Farms will continue its operations, another testament to the legacy Nick leaves behind. In a relatively short period of time, Sergi Farms achieved considerable success. The farm started out with a respectful size herd and number of pastured acres in 2013. In February 2017, Sergi Farms expanded with the acquisition of a 143-acre parcel where it established a new home.
The expanded land gave Sergi Farms the opportunity to greatly enhance the capability of producing more animals using the humane grass finished system. As the farm has grown, systems, techniques and the latest technology have been added to help improve its stewardship practices, animal well-being, and overall land health.
“Nick always had a deep passion for agriculture and animals. He was determined to turn that love for the land and animals into a successful enterprise; all while also providing healthy, humane and delicious beef for the community,” say his brothers, Dominic and Joe Sergi and Will Sutila. “While our hearts are heavy with his passing and he leaves a huge hole to fill, his legacy will live on in Sergi Farms.”
