One national commercial real estate network grew while another shrunk, when one of the biggest commercial real estate firms in Kansas made the switch from Grubb & Ellis to NAI Global.

The former Grubb & Ellis|Martens Commercial Group in mid-December announced that it is joining NAI Global. The company will now be known as NAI Martens.

Martens’ affiliation with The Grubb & Ellis Company lasted for 10 years. The Grubb & Ellis network, though, has recently suffered through difficult times. Earlier this year, the company declared bankruptcy. BGC Partners later purchased it.

Steve Martens, chief executive officer of NAI Martens, said that the NAI affiliation is a better fit for his growing company.

“We were happy with Grubb & Ellis for the past decade. But the NAI opportunity couldn’t have come at a better time,” Martens said in a written statement. “We are truly excited about joining an organization that provides a platform for networking with our peers in other leading independent commercial real estate brokerage companies.”

NAI Martens also announced that it will expand into the Topeka market.
