Two leading insurance companies, Markel Corporation and USI Insurance Services, have both signed new leases at 222 South Riverside Plaza and will move into the building over the next several months.

The larger of the two leases was signed by Markel Corporation. They will move from 111 N. Canal to a 15,635- square-foot space on the 22nd floor at 222 South Riverside. The new lease commences on January 1, 2015. USI Insurance Services is also moving to 222 South Riverside Plaza this summer from 100 S. Wacker. They will occupy an 8,100-square-foot space on the sixth floor after their new lease starts on June 1, 2014.

JLL Managing Director Steve Smith and Senior Vice President Nikki Kern completed both transactions on behalf of the building’s owner, TIER REIT. Markel Corporation was represented by Jonathan Metzl and Steven LaKind of Studley, while USI Insurance was represented by Jim Ward of Cushman & Wakefield.

222 South Riverside is a 35-story, 1.2 million-square-foot building and is now 88 percent leased.
