A full building permit has finally been issued for 1000M, the long-awaited 73-story residential tower at 1000 S. Michigan Ave. in Chicago’s South Loop.
Co-developed by Time, Equities and JK Equities, 1000M is the last design of the late Helmut Jahn and plans indicate 738 units, along with 320 on-site parking spaces, according to Chicago YIMBY. The units will be split into four tiers of design and will vary in size and amenities, as the glass-clad floors have been designed to widen as the building rises, and future residents will have access to nearly 75,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor space.
The project was first announced in 2015 with construction officially beginning in December 2019. Originally expected to open its doors mid- to late-2022, the team hit the pause button on construction due to COVID-19.
Ready again to go vertical, McHugh Concrete recently completed a nine-hour continuous concrete pour for the structure’s mat slab foundation and construction is expected to conclude in 2024.
Chicago YIMBY reported Philip Castillo of Jahn Architecture as the architect of record on the permit.
