Brookfield, Wisconsin-baseed civil engineering firm raSmith earned a 2023 Industry Project Award in the mid-rise project category from the Steel Framing Industry Association.
raSmith won the award for its work on the 1122 W. Chicago mixed-use development project in Chicago.
1122 W. Chicago, in the city’s River West neighborhood, is a seven-story building spanning 97,000 square feet and including 97 luxury residential units and ground-floor retail space.
The Steel Framing Industry Association recognized 1122 W. Chicago for its use of cold-formed steel load-bearing wall, floor and roof joist systems for the upper six stories of the structure.
raSmith provided structural engineering at the podium level for this project. One of the key elements of 1122 W. Chicago was the use of panelized load-bearing cold-formed steel framing in the construction of the upper six stories. A one-story parking garage and structural steel and CMU elements were incorporated to enhance the architectural features.
