Women In Real Estate Award Finalists Announced

Illinois Real Estate Journal has announced the finalists for its 2011 Awards. The winners will be presented at the Fourth Annual Awards program on Thursday, September 8, 2011 at the University Club of Chicago.

Sixteen women are finalists for awards in five categories—Bright Horizon, Crystal Apple, Community Service, Career Achievement and Impact. The award program is co-hosted by Illinois Real Estate Journal and the Chicago Chapter of CREW.

“This is a great event and a great opportunity to celebrate and acknowledge the role of women in commercial real estate in Chicago,” said Mark Menzies, publisher of Illinois Real Estate Journal. “The award finalists all can be very proud.”

The finalists are as follows:

Bright Horizon Award—for a newcomer who has made an impact on the industry.

  • ­­Sophie Bidek, Hartshorne Plunkard Architecture
  • Krista Boomsma, Shepard Schwartz & Harris LLP
  • Kelly Gray, Jones Lang LaSalle
  • Kate Varde, Essex Realty Group

Crystal Apple—for a woman whose teaching and mentoring helps to influence the path of others.

  • Jan Fiola, Caribou Coffee
  • Cindy Malone, Chicago Title Insurance Company
  • Eteri Zaslavsky, Next Realty

Community Service—for a woman whose service to the community helps make the world a better place.

  • Estella Kiser, Kiser Group Realty, Inc.
  • Jeannine Reed RPA, Colliers International

Career Achievement—for a woman who has continually been an achiever and a leader in the industry.

  • Elise Couston, Paine Wetzel
  • Mary Fuller, Shepard Schwartz & Harris LLP
  • Marilyn Lissner and Sue Rosen, Cushman & Wakefield

Impact—for a woman who in 2010 made an impact through her work in commercial real estate.

  • Helen Kessler, HJKessler Associates
  • Aracely Nevarez, Hartshorne Plunkard Architecture
  • Andrea van Gelder, Jones Lang LaSalle

Just ahead of the presentation of awards, Maureen Ehrenberg, Global Director of CBRE and the winner of the 2009 Career Achievement Award will give a keynote presentation.
