Clayco and Zurich celebrated the high point of construction on Zurich’s new North American headquarters with a Topping Out Ceremony on August 13. Upon completion, the 750,000 square-foot building will reflect the company’s global reach and world-class stature through its bold simplicity in form, timeless material palette, and commitment to sustainability. Set to open in 2016, the company has shared that it is currently the largest build-to-suit office project in the U.S.
The Topping Out Ceremony featured remarks from Zurich North America Commercial CEO Mike Foley, Headquarters Business Lead Jennifer Kyung, and Clayco Chairman & CEO Bob Clark. State Representative Michelle Mussman, and Schaumburg Mayor Al Larson were also present to commemorate this milestone.
The Zurich North American Headquarters will be composed of three primary “bars” that are offset and stacked. The arrangement creates unique spaces for collaboration, open views of the surrounding landscape, optimizes solar orientation for amenities, and provides programmatic flexibility not found in typical office buildings. The top “bar” of the complex soars 11 stories and cantilevers toward downtown Chicago, providing visual identity along the interstate while projecting the strength and future focus of the company.
Zurich currently employs approximately 2,500 people in Schaumburg and also has an office in downtown Chicago. The new campus will align with Zurich’s commitment to building sustainable communities with a focus on energy and operational efficiencies, wellness and will include input from employees to create the best workspace for the future.
