Chicago-based Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill Architecture announced that architect Eric Tomich FAIA, RIBA has passed away.
“It is with great sadness that we relay the heartbreaking news of the passing of our teammate, and friend, Eric Tomich, FAIA, RIBA,” the firm announced in a statement. “Eric will be deeply missed; he leaves behind so many fond memories. Each of us not only grieves at the passing of such a tremendous individual but also for the loss our profession and the architectural community has suffered.”
Tomich served as project director at AS +GG. Before that, he served as an architect at Skidmore Owings and Merrill for more than 34 years. He was made a Fellow of the AIA in 2018 and served as the 2020 AIA Middle East President.
His experience ran the gamut, including supertall mixed use, commercial, hospitality and healthcare properties. Tomich’s most notable project is the Burj Khalifa in Dubai, the tallest building the world, for which he served as the Dubai-based project director, guiding all aspects of the project design from commencement to completion.
