Belton City Council approves NorthPoint’s expansion of commerce center

The Belton City Council in Belton, Missouri, approved the agreements at its April 13 meeting allowing NorthPoint Development to move forward with its $30 million expansion of Southview Commerce Center.

Currently, Southview Commerce Center has three, fully leased flex industrial buildings located east of I-49 between 155th Street and 162nd Street. The expansion will allow access to the business park from 155th Street.

Building 4 will be constructed on the long-vacant, abandoned Century Concrete plant and an adjoining 20-acre parcel. Located north of the existing business park, the 501,000-square-foot building will be identical in design to the Southview Commerce Center buildings. A related application for a preliminary plat introducing new, single-family lots with 7 acres of open space that will serve as a buffer to the properties to the east also was approved.

In this expansion, Belton’s public-private partnership with NorthPoint grows beyond successful building projects and job-creating business attraction to include a workforce development center. The center will coordinate with local educational institutions and skill development resources to provide training and help assure a prepared workforce for the business park.

Also, as part of this expansion, NorthPoint has agreed to fund the design and engineering as well as fund half the construction cost to replace 1.25 miles of old, failing cast iron water pipe along Allen Ave.
