The city of Grandview, Missouri, celebrated the official reopening of its newly renovated city hall and police department. Project partners will joined the city for a ribbon-cutting ceremony Jan. 28 to commemorate the completion of the revitalized public services and safety infrastructures.
After 10 months of extensive renovations, the $5.3 million makeover has breathed new life into these essential community facilities. It’s the largest renovation from Building Up Grandview, a $21 million bond package overwhelmingly passed in April 2022.
“Grandview City Hall and the Police Department opened on the same day 50 years ago this year and both desperately needed improvements,” explained Grandview Mayor Leonard Jones. “Now, Grandview City Hall and Police Department are modern, efficient and ready for the next 50 years.”
Crews began the renovations in mid-March 2024. Hoefer Welker served as project architect and JE Dunn served as construction manager at risk.
“Our team was honored to collaborate with the city of Grandview on these vital community facilities,” said Nick Lawler, AIA, NCARB, LEED AP BD+C, associate principal at Hoefer Welker. “The renovation of the city hall and police department prioritizes efficiency, accessibility and flexibility.”
City hall improvements included relocating the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) to 1102 Main Street and adding offices, conference rooms, modern board chambers, updated technology and improved ADA compliance access.
The police department now offers officers and detectives new locker rooms and workspaces and an employee kitchen and lounge.
“We incorporated innovative workspaces for staff, streamlined public areas and provided space to accommodate future growth,” added Lawler. “These buildings are a testament to Grandview’s commitment to serving its residents and creating a thriving community.”
The updated facilities and technology contribute to keeping Grandview safe. Dispatchers at Grandview Police Department now have a state-of-the-art communications office with upgraded technology, made feasible by the Jackson County E-911 Fund’s contribution.
City hall and police department employees began moving back into their spaces in mid-December.
All renovation projects included in the Building Up Grandview bond package are now complete, including the Grandview DMV, which opened in February 2024, and two fire stations, which were completed in fall 2024.
