Northeast Ohio is becoming a hub for biomedical businesses. And if you need proof, look at the numbers.

According to Jones Lang LaSalle — which recently released a report about the booming biomedical industry in Northeast Ohio — the region is home to more than 700 biomedical businesses employing more than 230,000 healthcare and bioscience workers.

And this industry is an important one for the economic health of Northeast Ohio. Jones Lang LaSalle reported that biomedical businesses here have attracted more than $1 billion in new investment since 2003. During this period, the region’s biomedical industry has grown by 37 percent.

The list of biomedical institutions in the area is an impressive one. There’s the Cleveland Clinic, University Hospitals and Summa Health System, just to name three. And Northeast Ohio’s biomedical industry continues to expand. The area is now home to three major projects in this field: the Cleveland Health-Tech Corridor, Akron Biomedical Corridor and the Global Center for Health Innovation in downtown Cleveland. This last facility houses 230,000 square feet of permanent showrooms for major medical manufacturers and service providers.
