Seeking brand new, efficient work space, Kopon, Airdo LLC (Kopon) has signed a 13,343-square-foot, long-term lease at 111 E. Wacker Drive in Chicago. The law firm was represented by Colliers International I Chicago’s Tony Karmin, Corby Marx and John Iglar.
“Our client was seeking a new updated law firm environment reflective of its culture and brand, and with that, the ability to customize their work environment,” said Karmin. “We were able to find them raw space with stunning north views overlooking the Chicago River in a property that met all of their real estate needs.”
Kopon is making the move from Willis Tower this month. The firm plans to create a state-of-the-art, first class law environment that optimizes efficiency and maximizes the property’s magnificent views. According to Karmin, a law firm making the switch from the popular West Loop to the East Loop is unusual, but Kopon valued building amenities and a “blank canvas” over everything else.
“Ownership has spent quite a bit of time and money updating the building,” Karmin said. “The renovation, coupled with more favorable economic terms found in the East Loop, made this a win-win for our client.”
AmTrust, which acquired the building in 2015, just completed a multi-million dollar capital campaign that refreshed the lobby, fitness center and conferencing facilities. Ownership also improved access to its companion property at 233 N. Michigan Avenue with the installation of multiple new intra-complex walkways.
In addition to its own enhanced amenities package, 111 E. Wacker Drive—a 1-million-square foot office tower designed by renowned architect Mies van der Rohe—benefits from proximity to the North Michigan Avenue shopping and dining district as well as Millennium Park and the East Loop’s live/work community.
