Morgan/Harbour has been selected to complete a 31,286-square-foot expansion for Maruichi Leavitt Pipe & Tube LLC in Chicago. Morgan/Harbour was selected for the project by construction manager Maeda Corp. Maeda Corp. is a full-service construction/engineering firm headquartered in Tokyo with a U.S. regional office in Livonia, Mich.

Located at 1717 W. 115th St. on Chicago’s south side, Maruichi Leavitt Pipe & Tube began producing mechanical steel tubing in 1956. The firm is headquartered in Chicago, and operates ten tubing mills throughout Chicago and Jackson, Miss. The expansion to the manufacturing facility features a 34-foot high precast concrete shell, structural steel for a 10-ton bridge crane and foundations to support new production machinery.  The new expansion will also use tube steel provided by Maruichi Leavitt Pipe & Tube for the structure.

Ben Warriner, vice president of construction, is the project executive and Scott Heguy is the project manager. Dan Glombicki of Morgan/Harbour is the project superintendent, and Harris Architects is providing the design services. Construction is scheduled for completion in late fall 2012.
