Indiana Lt. Governor Sue Ellspermann and Hendricks County officials joined Gordmans’ executives today for the groundbreaking of the company’s new 545,000-square-foot distribution center in Clayton, Ind. Including construction and equipment costs, the Gordmans distribution center represents a total capital investment of $37.5 million, and it will create up to 250 jobs by 2017.
Gordmans, Inc., a national apparel and home décor retailer, is a fast-growing, publicly traded company operating 86 stores in 48 markets and 18 states, including five stores in Indiana. This year, the retailer will open 10 stores across the United States, including locations in Valparaiso and Clarksville, Ind. The Indianapolis-area facility will support Gordmans’ continued growth as the Company’s second distribution center in the Midwest.
“It’s a privilege to help celebrate Gordmans’ progress toward opening its first Indiana distribution center,” said Ellspermann. “With our talented workforce, low-tax climate and convenient location at the crossroads of America, we are confident that Gordmans will find a successful home in Central Indiana.”
Aasif Bade, president of Ambrose Property Group, hosted the groundbreaking ceremony.

The Indiana Economic Development Corporation offered Gordmans up to $1.1 million in conditional tax credits based on the company’s job-creation plans. These tax credits are performance-based, meaning that until Hoosiers are hired, the company is not eligible to claim incentives. In addition, the Hendricks County Economic Development Partnership approved that Gordmans will receive nearly $2 million in real and personal property tax abatements as a result of the capital investment in the project.
