Principle Construction Corp.‘s firm broke ground on a partial demolition, expansion and renovation for Chicago Mold Engineering Co., Inc building at 3620 Swenson Avenue in St. Charles, Illinois. Principle was chosen by Blackshire Real Estate, for this project.
The project will include the demolition of an 18,770 square foot existing warehouse and manufacturing building to accommodate a new 39,539 square foot crane building facility. The Principle team will demolish a portion of the existing pre-cast concrete facility to make way for a new two bay crane building.
The addition will be constructed 9′ taller than the existing building, constructed of load-bearing insulated precast concrete and will include two (2) 70′ span crane bays 270′ long each. The building steel has been designed using independent structural frames to allow multiple cranes per bay with capacities up to 30 tons. Specific areas of the existing slab on grade shall be retained to allow for adaptive re-use. The facility will be fully air conditioned and additional electrical service shall be added to accommodate added production loads. The project shall incorporate the construction of new washroom, locker room and break room facilities.
Principle’s Paul Cohen will be the project manager, Mike Long will be the project executive and Greg Voegtle will be the Superintendent on the project. Heitman Architects will provide architectural services. Completion of the renovation and expansion is scheduled for Fall 2014.
