A ribbon cutting ceremony and grand opening celebration were held July 25 to mark the completion of the Rabine Group’s new 18,000-square-foot LEED certified national corporate headquarters along with paving and roofing design centers located at 900 National Parkway in Schaumburg. Guests were treated to tours of the facility, pavement center and rooftop and were invited to attend a LEED certification seminar.
Rabine Group recently received the Al Larson Environmental Award for their extraordinary achievement in energy efficiency. The firm’s LEED certified headquarters facility exhibits the latest technology reflective of Rabine’s offerings to their customers. As part of the firm’s growing Rabine Academy, both a Pavement Design Center and Roofing Design Center were recently completed. The academy is instructed by Rabine’s on-staff industry experts.
“We are very proud of our headquarters and design centers,” said Gary Rabine, CEO of the Rabine Group. “Our overall commitment to sustainable energy is demonstrated throughout our campus.”
Situated within a 100,000-square-foot Class A office building in Schaumburg, Rabine Group has completed their 18,000-square-foot headquarters as a showcase for the firm’s many companies. Features of the facility include: The Rabine Quality and Innovation Center as well as an in-house auditorium used for training and educational workshops held by Rabine Academy.
The Pavement Design Center features multiple pavement types and thicknesses utilizing surfaces of concrete and asphalt. Rabine’s 200 stall parking lot includes: pervious concrete, porous asphalt, stamped concrete and asphalt, full-depth concrete and asphalt and UltraLot Whitetopping. This variation offers customers the opportunity to view many options including the industry’s most advanced green pavements. An example is the use of concrete that reduces site lighting cost by up to 40 percent. It also minimizes the urban heat island effect, which allows for less energy to be used when heating or cooling the building.
Rabine’s Roofing Design Center is comprised of 15 different roof types geared toward educating clients, partners and employees of the advantages of energy efficiency and renewable energy generation. A walking path allows observers to examine the various roofing options that are available within the roofing industry. Rabine’s own LiveRoof includes an environmentally friendly vegetative garden roof or “green roof” and incorporates solar roof technologies. The “green roof” is an extensive area that houses many plants and vegetables. The solar roof features 294 Monocrystalline panels and individual micro inverters. The 69.09 kW rooftop solar photovoltaic system produces 76,000 kWh of energy annually, and should offset 5 percent of the total building’s energy consumption.
“Through the use of innovative products, we have been successful in reducing negative environmental impacts,” Rabine said. “Our new facility should reduce the building’s annual electricity usage by 5 percent while creating a workplace environment with better indoor air quality and lighting.”
