Reed Construction has completed a build-out on behalf of the Civic Opera Building located at 20 N. Wacker Drive in Chicago.
Reed Construction was selected to complete a 9,000-square-foot build-out of a fitness center and multi-purpose room for the Civic Opera Building. The project consisted of demolition of the existing office space to accommodate for a renovated open floor plan. New features of the space include an open ceiling with architectural acoustical spray, full backlit millwork backsplash, drywall feature walls with graphics, pendant lights and tiled showers with frameless drains. Reed Construction refinished the original wood floors in the multi-purpose room, and provided raised flooring with stainless steel railings in the fitness center.
“This project had many intricate details and finishes,” said Matt Mahoney, project manager for Reed Construction. “The construction we completed on the fitness center and multi-purpose room, along with the recently opened roof deck, has raised the status of Civic Opera House to one of downtown’s in demand buildings.”
Matt Mahoney was the project manager and Rich Strylowski was the project superintendent for Reed Construction. Perkins + Will provided the architectural services. The Telos Group handles the leasing for Civic Opera.
The Civic Opera Building, one of Chicago’s historic landmarks, was built in 1929 and fully restored in 1996. It is located in Chicago’s West Loop, near public transportation and overlooking the Chicago River. The property includes forty-four stories and 1,385,000 square feet of office and auditorium space with an exterior of cut limestone and terra-cotta trim. The Landmark-designated lobby has marble floors and walls, and an ornamental plaster ceiling with thirteen original pendant chandeliers. The 3,563 seat-theater is the second largest opera auditorium in North America and holds the largest stage in downtown Chicago.
