Sports Authority has signed a lease for 21,877 square feet at Minneapolis City Center, a retail center owned by Shorenstein Properties.
Sports Authority has 10 stores in the Minneapolis area, but this marks the company’s first store in downtown Minneapolis. The store is expected to open in the fall of 2015.
Sports Authority will occupy the ground-floor retail space on the Nicollet Mall and 7th Street side of the property. Sports Authority’s presence brings total retail occupancy at Minneapolis City Center to 86 percent.
Shorenstein also signed a lease for more than 40,000 square feet with discount luxury apparel retailer Saks Fifth Avenue OFF 5TH for a store that is slated to open in April of 2016.
Minneapolis City Center, acquired by Shorenstein Properties in 2012, is the two-story retail portion of the 1.6-million-square-foot mixed-use property owned by Shorenstein at 33 S. Sixth St. in downtown Minneapolis. The property also includes a 50-story office tower, three-story parking garage and a long-term ground lease for the adjacent 583-room Marriott City Center Hotel.
