Stahl was selected by the Urbandale Community School District for the construction of a two-story, 118,000-square-foot elementary school in Urbandale, Iowa. The new $28 million building, located at 7110 Prairie Ave., will replace the existing Olmsted Elementary and feature state-of-the-art classrooms, kitchen and cafeteria, gymnasium, administration area and auxiliary spaces.
Urbandale’s new school is a part of a $59 million bond referendum and long-term facilities plan for the district to meet the growing need for additional education spaces serving children in grades PK-5. Once complete, the open layout school will house up to 650 students, with future expansion capabilities.
Demolition of the existing Olmsted Elementary School began in mid-July 2019 with substantial completion of the new elementary school scheduled for May 2021. The facility will be completed in time for the 2021 – 2022 school year.
Upon completion of the new elementary school in 2021, Stahl will begin the demolition and construction of a second new elementary school at the existing Valerius Elementary School site in the summer of 2023. Following a similar two-year construction schedule, the anticipated completion date of the second elementary school is May 2025, in time for the 2025-2026 school year.
