Testa Produce Inc. has received the Outstanding For-Profit Neighborhood Real Estate Project Award from the Local Initiatives Support Corp. Chicago at their 18th Annual Chicago Neighborhood Development Awards at the Chicago Hilton & Towers.
The Chicago Neighborhood Development Awards, which honors the best programs, leaders and architecture that are improving Chicago’s neighborhoods through work and design, is the nation’s largest awards program dedicated to neighborhood-based development.
Summit Design + Build was responsible for the construction of Testa Produce Inc.’s new produce distribution facility at 4555 S. Racine Ave. in Chicago. The 91,300-square-foot, $24 million facility is the first food distribution facility in the nation to gain LEED Platinum certification – the U.S. Green Building Council‘s highest rating available – with 59 of a possible 69 points achieved.
The project, which revitalized a vacant 13-acre brownfield industrial site in Chicago’s Stockyards Industrial Park, features sustainable components including solar heated hot water, a 45,000-square-foot barreled vegetated roof, and a 238-foot, 750 kW freestanding wind turbine.
