The Goldie B. Wolfe Miller Women Leaders in Real Estate Initiative (‘The Goldie Initiative®”), a nonprofit organization designed to prepare women for senior leadership roles in all sectors of commercial real estate, is exploring a programmatic expansion into the Northeast United States. Since 2007, The Goldie Initiative has created a professional community of women with extraordinary academic and leadership potential, known as Goldie Scholars, with a Midwest focus, until recently.

With a unique strategy of scholarship, mentoring, networking and skills development, The Goldie Initiative cultivates talented women into future leaders. The program supports women pursuing graduate-level studies in business, law, design, or management with a focus on real estate. Over 30 current Goldie Scholars are currently studying in real estate-related programs at nearly 20 universities nationwide, including many located in the Northeast.

On November 2-3, 2023, CEO Megan Abraham participated in an exploratory visit to New York City, focused on supporting Goldie Scholars studying at schools in the region, reconnecting with Alumnae of The Goldie Initiative, and expanding the pool of mentors and stakeholders interested in seeing more women in leadership positions in the commercial real estate industry.

One of the purposes of the outreach into this new market was to execute a recruitment event featuring a panel discussion with female leaders in the industry, held at an iconic New York real estate development. Several Goldie Scholars and alumnae were present for the panel and subsequent networking reception.

In addition, Abraham hosted Goldie Scholars and alumnae at informal gatherings, to discuss the future expansion of its networking platform to cities in the Northeast, including New York, Boston, and Philadelphia, where The Goldie Initiative network is steadily growing.  She also met with other important stakeholders to discuss The Goldie Initiative’s plans for more in-person networking opportunities and recruitment in the Northeast United States. Abraham and team look forward to returning to the Northeast in 2024, to launch the next phase of in-person activities in the region.
