Urban Innovations completed an office buildout for Metropolitan Peace Initiatives at 2100 S. Morgan St. in Chicago’s Pilsen neighborhood.
The new space houses private and open offices, training rooms, meditation rooms, and a kitchen for the Metropolitan Peace Academy, which provides counseling, training, mediation and more to help prevent street violence in the city.
The Urban Innovations team improved the space to include a podcast room and a 2,000 square foot gym. The space is divided with Modernfold partitions. Metropolitan Peace Initiatives, a division of Metropolitan Family Services, moved from a previous location and was looking for a more unique and creative space.
Owned by Pilsen Metropolis LLC, the space is a unique and flexible office with 16-foot ceilings and exposed brick walls and ceiling beams. The building was constructed in 1940 and renovated in 2019 to include a new lobby and common areas, new HVAC and electrical, bathrooms with showers, bike storage, and a secure electronic entry system. The building’s private parking and access to the El Paseo trail and the burgeoning Pilsen neighborhood made it a top choice for Metropolitan Peace Initiatives.
Urban Innovations began the project in May and completed it in September. Urban Innovations’ Ramiro Trevino was principal on the project and Amanda May served as project manager. Wight & Co. designed the space for the tenant, with MAI Architects working as the building architect. Baum Realty worked on behalf of the building owner and CBRE represented the tenant in the building lease.
