Village Green, one of the country’s largest and oldest privately-owned luxury apartment owner /operators, was recently chosen to manage The Shelby in the South Loop neighborhood of Chicago. The one year-old property at 2300 S. Michigan Ave. will maintain the Shelby name but undergo changes to add commercial space for a restaurant, bar or coffee house.
The Shelby is the 12th apartment building that Village Green owns and/or manages in downtown Chicago. The 94 unit, 97,000 square foot, seven story building consists of one and two bedroom units in nine different floor plans. Rents range from $1,580 to $2,700. It is in the heart of the South Loop on historic Motor Row. “We like The Shelby because we enjoy working in historic neighborhoods that are experiencing revitalization. Bringing more value to the property and the neighborhood is very rewarding work”, said Diane Batayeh, COO of Village Green.
The building is new but designed to have a classic warehouse look and feel. Floor to ceiling windows, exposed nine and ten foot concrete ceilings and hardwood floors create an industrial backdrop while granite countertops, walk-in closets and in-unit laundries provide modern creature comforts. The apartment community has views of the skyline and lakefront, is pet friendly, includes a fitness center and a community room. Development in the South Loop is a priority for the city. It has made large financial investments in infrastructure to transform Motor Row into a premier entertainment district with new mass transit stops, music venues, nightclubs, restaurants and hotels.
