Andy Farbman’s father used to wake him up every Saturday morning at 6am and drive the streets of Detroit. His father would tell him every block is another opportunity. Farbman isn’t sure when the morning drives turned into a profession, but CRE has always been a part of his life.
“I love doing deals,” Farbman said, CEO of Farbman Group. “Every little component fascinates me from the people interaction to the end user. The most rewarding part of my job is finding something that someone else missed.”
What sets the Farbman Group apart from the rest? “We treat all properties that we work on as if we owned them. We are in this business for the long haul.”
So what is a trend Farbman has seen, and a challenge he faces in today’s market? “Availability of public and private information has made everyone a so called “expert”, and cap rate compression from the availability of capital has made it challenging to find new acquisition and re-development deals.”
Recently the Farbman Group, successfully completed the redevelopment and sale of 200 W. Monroe in Chicago.
With such a hectic schedule, Farbman has successfully found his balance between work and the things that keep him sane. “I prioritize coaching and personal competition on a daily basis.”
One thing Farbman would like to do that he hasn’t already? “Hike the entire Appalachian Trail.”
If he wasn’t in commercial real estate, what would you he be doing? “Coaching high school sports, or maybe letting my Muse lead me to my illustrious painting career.”
Farbman’s favorite music is Young Country, as far as his favorite movies goes, one of them is my favorite as well! “The Man from Snowy River or the Jerk.”
